AMA with Aavegotchi, Community-Owned Gaming Protocol
Primer: Polygon Advocate Zaunzi is back with another AMA. This time, it is with Aavegotchi, an NFT gaming protocol. Recently, Aavegotchi launched their FAKE Gotchis Art Release. Find out more about the Gotchiverse, the art release, and Aavegotchi V2 in this episode with Zaunzi.
Background
Been in crypto for 7 years
Started on the Digital Assets Exchange side
From the US but spent most of his time in Asia
Co-founded Mintable with Zach Burks
Subsequently built Bullionix
Took what he had learned and used it to build Aavegotchi with Coderdan
Aavegotchi
Their Story
Wanted to make a better crypto pet that can be used as avatars for other Web3 games
Launched the GHST token in Summer 2020
In March 2021, Aavegotchi was launched on Polygon
What Are Aavegotchis?
A crypto pet
Pet your Aavegotchi to increase its kinship score
The SVG artwork of the Gotchi is stored on-chain
Each Aavegotchi has an ERC-20 token staked inside it that’s earning a yield
How Has Their Idea Evolved?
Added side views and back views for Aavegotchis
Had over 40 improvement proposals passed by the AavegotchiDAO
Building mini-games and a massive Metaverse
“We're a DAO that is building games. We're not a DAO that's adjusting interest rates, like a central bank, or just collecting NFTs. We're actually creating NFTs and creating this game together.”
- Jesse Johnson
They are the first Metaverse with land parcels with tokens waiting to be farmed out
People do not need an Aavegotchi to access the Gotchiverse
Can support thousands of players concurrently
Utility Of Alchemica Tokens And GLTR Tokens
The 4 Alchemica tokens are the raw elements of the Gotchiverse
Once Alchemica is gathered up, you can go to the crafting table to craft the NFTs
Have hosted competitions for decorating parcels creatively
Will be introducing combat soon
The GLTR token is used to speed up your builds. It is earned by LPing
Earning Alchemica Without Owning A Land Parcel
Every Saturday, there’s a 2-hour window where it rains Alchemica
Those without an Aavegotchi could borrow one from others
Rarity Farming
Three different leaderboards that look at how well you’ve taken care of your Aavegotchi
Rewards are distributed on a curve where the top 5% reap huge rewards and attract the power players
At the same time, the tail is super long and the top 5000 Aavegotchi will receive some rewards
Rarity Farming is funded by the rewards pool that came from the primary sales (Aavegotchi sales, land sales, Wearable sales)
The Art Release
When the Gotchiverse was first released, it was very sparse
The art release did a few things:
Anybody can access the Gotchiverse through Observer mode
NFT Display cases to display NFTs on your parcel
Hosting events, meetups, and gallery showings on your parcel
Soon, there will be auctions and live sales
Hosts could dispense coins on their parcels for attendees to collect
If you are hosting, you would want a Bounce Gate for people to teleport straight to your parcel
The more the Bounce Gate is charged with GLTR, the more it is on the front page to promote your event
FAKE Gotchis
The FAKE Gotchis art release is a hat tip to Rare Pepes and their Fake Rares
Anybody can submit an artwork to the collection. All they need is a FAKE Gotchi card to mint their artwork
Have an upcoming raffle to distribute the FAKE Gotchi cards
Winners of the cards may not be artists themselves. Wanted to make card holders/publishers collaborate with artists
Anytime the artwork is traded on the marketplace, royalty gets streamed to both publisher and the artist
The publisher could also be a guild
Whenever someone submits their piece, it does not get minted right away. It enters a 5-day queue/cooling-off period
Those with AavegotchiDAO governance power can come in to flag any submissions they have an issue with
Guilds
Saw the success of Axie Infinity and it was clear that guilds will play a huge role in Web3 games
Established guilds like Yield Guild have come into the Gotchiverse
There are many organic grassroots Gotchi guilds that bootstrapped themselves
The Aavegotchi Wiki has a cool map showing the guilds in the Gotchiverse
GBM Auctions
One of their most popular events is the GBM Bid-to-Earn auction
When your bid gets outbid, you gain back your capital and a certain percentage of the capital from the person that outbid you
Did their land sale using the GBM auction mechanism
Aavegotchi V2
Will have a brand new, super smooth UI
Users can choose to host their own GBM auction in the NFT marketplace at anytime they want
Have integrated with Router Protocol, a cross-chain swapper
Integrated with Wert for credit card onboarding:
Buying GHST tokens using a credit card
Swiping a credit card and executing a smart contract
