CRE8R DAO AMA with ZettaBlock
Primer: ZettaBlock is an enterprise-grade full-stack Web3 infrastructure for indexing and analytics, joining on-chain and off-chain data. With ZettaBlock, developers can build GraphQL APIs via SQL in minutes, saving time and cost. Find out more about ZettaBlock in our exclusive AMA with their founders, Scott Shi and Chi Zhang.
Team
Background of the Team
Has a Web3 startup team that operates globally
The team is led by two experienced co-founders, Scott Shi and Chi Zhang
Scott Shi
Has over a decade of expertise in engineering
Worked at companies like Uber, Salesforce and EA
Chi Zhang
Was a product manager at Databricks
Holds a PhD from UC Berkeley
Experience in building data and AI products
Proven track record of supporting data-driven organizations
The origin story behind ZettaBlock
The origin story begins with the recognition of a significant gap in the market
The team recognized that while blockchain technology and Web3 have immense potential, currently, there are challenges in indexing and accessing data on the blockchain
This presents a limitation to fully utilizing the potential of Web3 and blockchain.
To address this issue, the team decided to start the project with a mission to develop innovative solutions that can efficiently index and access data on the blockchain so as to unlock the potential of Web3 data runpath
By providing tools and solutions that enable the efficient management and utilization of blockchain data, the team hopes to contribute to the growth and development of the Web3 ecosystem.
Funding for the project

About ZettaBlock
What is ZettaBlock in a nutshell?
ZettaBlock is an enterprise-grade full-stack Web3 infrastructure for indexing and analytics, joining on-chain and off-chain data
They provide data API, indexed blockchain data and data solutions to Web3 startup
Helps Web3 companies to build data-dedicated products
What is the unique selling proposition of ZettaBlock?
Compared with competitors, ZettaBlock has the following strengths:
Zero Infra Overhead - Save months of development and over 90% of annual costs
Full-stack - Provides a unified data platform with streaming, OLTP indexing, OLAP analytics, and visualization architecture, plus hundreds of blockchain datasets that are ready to use
Flexibility - Allows anyone to build their own GraphQL APIs and SQL with custom transformation logic needs
Real-time - Customized API with 10ms response time and sub-second data freshness and high throughput handled
Data Unification - Seamlessly obtain any decoded on-chain data, combining it with your own off-chain data
Scalable - Easily join petabyte-scale data with SQL
Reliable - Ensures near-perfect system uptimes (99.99%) to support real-time, data-intensive apps
If The Graph is down, will the services offered by ZettaBlock be disrupted?
No, because ZettaBlock is not built on top of The Graph
ZettaBlock makes its own GraphQL API generator to help developers create their own GraphQL API
There is no need for developers to use sub-graph and suffer any downturn as a result of using it
Are there different user account tiers for people with different user needs?
ZettaBlock provides Free, Build, and Enterprise plans for different needs
For the free plan, there are 3 million free compute units for one account per month
For the build plan, it costs $49 per month, with 20 million compute units and more useful functions
More details on the different tier plans will be released soon
Name a use case for ZettaBlock to illustrate what ZettaBlock can do
One of ZettaBlock’s customers is Polygon
ZettaBlock helped build Polygon’s internal dashboards to enable the Polygon data team to monitor the entire network and ecosystem
Also helped to build the public-facing API that allows Polygon users and developers to have access to real-time statistics and application data on the blockchain
What is the intended skill level for a user to use ZettaBlock?
It is very easy to use ZettaBlock
To do the data query, all you need to know is some basic SQL. After that, the results can easily be turned into GraphQL API by clicking some buttons
GraphQL language is also easy to pick up and learn
Features of ZettaBlock
What is the data that ZettaBlock can provide?
Raw/Decoded data - blocks, transactions, logs and traces
Raw and decoded data are merged and supported under the raw data tags (see above) as of 2nd Dec 2022
Metadata Tables - erc20, nft_tokens, includes names, ids, symbols, decimals
Off-chain Abstraction data - token prices
Core event data - erc721.ERC721_evt_Transfer, erc20.ERC20_evt_Transfer, erc1155.ERC1155_evt_TransferSingle
dApp specific data - such as opensea.WyvernExchange_evt_OrdersMatched, opensea.WyvernExchange_call_atomicMatch_
DEX - pools, swaps, liquidity actions
NFT - mints, trades overall and by marketplace
Can queries and APIs be saved on the platform and shared with others?
Yes, a user can create queries and API, then share it with the whole community
One can also fork other user’s API and customize
Can datasets generated through ZettaBlock be exported as CSV files?
Yes, a user can export the query results
Results can be turned into different charts to build your own data dashboard
Roadmap
Can developers start using ZettaBlock now?
For individual developers, ZettaBlock is still under development and testing
The team is going to launch their community user program to give permission to creative developers to build on ZettaBlock
What are some interesting events in the near term and the long term?
Had just finished their first developer bounty
Going to launch their community user program soon
All developers will be able to apply to use ZettaBlock by filling out the application form
