CRE8RDAO Interviews Marc from Infinity Skies
Primer: Fugu and Dheeraj from CreatorDAO interviews Marc, the Co-Founder of Infinity Skies. Infinity Skies is an upcoming sandbox game where players can adventure, socialize, trade, and build. Marc gives us a deep dive into Infinity Skies and their tokenomics, leaking some alpha throughout the conversation.
Infinity Skies
New sandbox game where people can adventure, socialize, trade, and build
Sander, his Co-Founder, and himself has been gaming together since elementary school
Always had ideas of making a game together in the future
In November 2020, he gave Sander a phone call to combine their passions and create a game together
Spent multiple days and nights brainstorming on the concept
Took inspiration from Habbo Hotel. Both of them played it in elementary school
"The funny thing with Habbo Hotel was everyone in our class was playing it. There was always this kind of bragging contest like who had the most badass hotel room and oh, look at my furniture and how many people are in this hotel room everyday. And that's kind of the experience that we want to recreate with Infinity Skies." - Marc Bruinsma
What Can People Create In Infinity Skies?
Infinity Skies is built around 4 core pillars
Build
Trade
Adventure
Socialize
The Build and Socialize elements were inspired from Habbo Hotel
Players can acquire NFTs through Adventures and socialize with other players in their castles to win NFTs
NFTs can be used to build up their castles
Players can build almost anything — from making a castle to decorating it, and planting trees in the garden to placing statues there
Target Audience Of The Game
Target audience is pretty wide. Will be catering to multiple groups
Thinks that the age range of their target audience ranges from 18 - 36
Those in their 30s probably wouldn't want to socialize too much. Would most likely jump into an adventure and slay monsters
Their Team
Started with Sander
After that, they onboarded an artist to help them with some of the initial art and concept and to model it into 3D assets
Subsequently, things went ahead pretty quickly. They received their first investments and the team expanded to 20 people:
3 Game developers
1 System developer for their backend infrastructure
1 Smart Contract developer
~10 artist (concept art, 2D art, 3D art, VFX)
1 writer
1 senior project manager
2 people in the marketing team
Build
Players can build their castles using the NFTs they acquired
NFTs can be acquired through trading, adventures, the social leaderboards, or from socializing itself
Game will be free to play
When the game is first launched, players start with an empty island. They need to build themselves a simple house
If they choose to do so, players can buy land coordinates to get closer to the centre of the map. They can also start adventures and earn their way into the inner circle for free by acquiring NFTs
Building Competition
Each month, there will be a building competition
Top players that get the most votes are rewarded with NFTs. Specifically for the top 3 players, they will receive a kingship that allows them to share a combined 1% royalty fee from their marketplace
"So imagine if our marketplace has $100 million of trading volume in a month, the kings will receive 1 million in total." - Marc Bruinsma
The royalty fee will be airdropped automatically to the top 3 players
Fugu: What are we going to do with past kings if we have 3 Kings each month?
Their crown is a reminder of their legacy; a unique NFT that no one else in the world has
Rationale For Special NFTs
Wanted to give players the opportunity to share in the revenue from the marketplace
Figured the best way to do that is through a competition
There will be players who compete but do not quality for the top 3 positions. Created unique NFTs to cater to those top players who did not make it to the top 3:
Top 100: Astral rarity NFT
Top 500: Divine rarity NFT
Top 1500: Legendary rarity NFT
After that to some cut-off number: Epic rarity NFT
Will be flexible with these numbers. Will adjust it based on the number of players
Rarity Levels
From descending order of rarity: royal —> astral —> divine —> legendary —> epic —> rare —> uncommon —> common
Royal NFT is the most rare NFT. They are only for the kings
Each month, they will craft 3 unique hand-drawn crowns that are made into 3D assets
Will probably get the Kings' inputs on those crowns so that they can have a say into what type of crown they would like
Astral NFTs are going to be dropped into the game for promotional and competition purposes
The divine rarity NFTs would be the first highest rarity NFT that will be droppable in game
Rationale For Non-Tradable Starter Pack
Wanted to make sure that players had something to begin with but not create an unlimited amount of wallets to flip the free starter pack on the market
Some of the items in the starter pack are also droppable in-game. Players have to work for it or do something to acquire these items
Wanted to make sure that these NFTs would still hold some value
Would be problematic for crafting if players create thousands of wallets and use the ingredients in the starter packs to craft legendary NFTs to flood the marketplace
Effect Of Paint Jobs/Skins On Adventure
Does not have an effect on Adventure
They want to get rid of the pay-to-win concept in Infinity Skies
Only use for paint jobs and skins are for bragging rights
Utility Of Statue Characters
The initial astral NFTs will have staking capabilities
Players can put the statue NFT in their homes, stake it, and receive Skyblock tokens
This is how the team rewards early contributors
"I just want to say I don't know if this Senon statue is gonna fit at the core of my house though. This statue is kinda scary." - Fugu
Socializing
Creating a roadmap that's inspired by the Stellaris roadmap. It will evoke a galaxy-type feeling
Will be showing a teaser of it very soon
The map will display everyone's islands. Clicking on an island will allow you to travel to that island
Players will be able to interact with other players on the island
Will be including mini-game NFTs that players can place on their island. Other players can interact with them and play some mini-games
Prestige Points
Players can leave a vote, also known as a prestige point, if they like and had a good time at someone else's castle
The castle with the most votes will become eligible for the leaderboards at the end of each month
Players need to make their castles attractive to attract other players to vote for them
Adventure
Will Players Get Any Advantage In Adventure Mode?
Adventure is totally separate from other aspects of Infinity Skies
Adventure mode is based on the roguelike genre:
High difficulty
High chance of failing
High rewards
If players die in Adventure, they have to start all over again with nothing
The game Hades is a good example of the type of Adventure that they are making
Rewards From Adventure
Players receive a silver and gold chest for completing 1 and 2 adventures, respectively
Loot tables are different for the different chest types in terms of:
Highest rarity that can be found inside the chest
Percentages for each rarity
Only way to get chests outside the game is through liquidity farming
Trading
When they started designing their marketplace, they looked at some of the most successful MMORPGs for inspiration
For World of Warcraft and Runescape, players will reach a point where the game isn't important anymore
From that point on, it is about flipping your items for better prices on the Auction House or the Grand Exchange. Their Trading core pillar is aimed to target these sort of players
Players will not be able to see the exact price for NFT trades, but an average price. Players have the freedom to determine the price they want to sell their NFT for
Skyblock Token (ISKY)
Release Date
Had to remake the roadmap a couple of times as the scope for Infinity Skies has increased rapidly over the past few months
Have to account for auditing time as well
Launching the token in January 2022
Tokenomics
Total supply of 100 million tokens
1 million tokens for the public sale
Token Utility:
Main currency for their marketplace
Used in liquidity farming to get NFTs
For every Skyblock token transaction,
3% goes to the play-to-earn stash
1.5% is recycled to the claim pool
0.5% goes to the dev team
The Claim pool is a DApp that they have developed. Every player and wallet holder is eligible to claim the fees sent to the claim pool
Claims have to be made on a website
The team wants to make sure that players are constantly interacting with the claim contract. At their end, they will be taking constant snapshots of the wallet holders to ensure that the claims get distributed to the right wallets
Community Building
Focusing on getting gaming communities onboard
Will be approaching gaming guilds and communities, not just communities in crypto
Will also be targeting communities in the traditional gaming industry as well
Will have multiple campaigns in the coming weeks. Might use airdrops to incentivize the community
Composability Of NFTs
Difficult to work with the entire metaverse
Each NFT game uses a different type of rendering or graphics setup
For example, if they put their NFTs in The Sandbox Game, it would not be rendered well
"That sounds really cool. So we can make these really elaborate art galleries in our Castle in the Sky. With the combination of these Astral rarity statues I could imagine a pretty cool setup in there." - Fugu
Creating painting NFTs where people can display their artwork in it. These NFTs can then be displayed inside the player's castle
NFTs That He Owns
Have some Sandbox Game NFTs
Have a lazy lion NFT
Generative art NFTs
What Gets Him Up In The Morning?
The future of gaming and the play-to-earn revolution
The whole crypto gaming scene is picking up
What's most important is the quality of games
When Will The Game Be Released?
Offline demo and Testnet demo in Q1 2022
Hopes that the Early Access version of the game will arrive in late Q1 or early Q2 2022
Their Competitors
Doesn't think that there's competition at all. People would want some diversification in the play-to-earn space
Infinity Skies has 4 core pillars, which allows them to be fitted into multiple game categories
Finds Sandbox Game and Axie Infinity very cool
Dutch Influence In Infinity Skies
Sander is usually the one that plans easter eggs in the game
Can definitely imagine that there will be some
OG Role In The Discord
Consists of the first group of participants/early supporters in the Discord
The role is now closed
How Can People Get Involved?
Follow their social media handles
Join their Discord and ask them questions
Spread the word about them
Will have some cool events before January
30 community members will get some pieces of Infinity Skies for free before their sales. This will be released in the Discord in a couple of weeks
