Gunfire
The Game
A 2D platform shooting game
Similar to Contra and Metal Slug
Players use their weapons to eliminate monsters. The shooting with weapons is automatic
Once all the monsters are eliminated, players can cross the world map to experience different scenes
Free-to-play
Play-to-earn option is available once every 5 days. Players need to purchase tickets to enter endless mode/5-day tournament to win prizes
Prizes come from the ticket revenue
Decision To Launch On Avalanche
Very competitive to launch games on Binance chain and Polygon
Decided that Avalanche was a good blockchain for them to launch on
Think of each blockchain as a separate server. Players start anew on each blockchain
Status On Avalanche
One month post-launch, they became the number 1 game on DappRadar
Have 5000 active players each day
“The status of the game on Avalanche network is still very good. That's why we decided that okay, it's time to expand to another blockchain.”
- Phillips
Status On Polygon
Mainnet version has been released
Have 2500 players playing the game
Funding Sources
Have not raised any funds
Used their own funds
Partnered with many projects/communities on Avalanche, which helped them to acquire users
Purchases made by users contributed to their revenue
Currently raising funds from private investors and working with Avalanche Launchpad. Public sales will be in Q4 this year
Relationship Between Oxalus And Gunfire
Oxalus is an infrastructure provider
Partnered with Oxalus when they launched Gunfire on Polygon
Gameplay Loop
Are Players Competing Against One Another?
Have a system consisting of floors and maps, with each map having 20 floors
In endless mode, they have a system of floors and rooms, with each floor having 20 rooms
Players compete on how high they could climb on the leaderboard
Monster encounters are randomized on endless mode
“This is actually a PvE leaderboard. So when you shoot and then when you try to climb the floor on the leaderboard, you are shooting against the monsters that are generated by the AI.”
- Phillips
How Does The Content Stay Fresh?
Have only released 40% of the game content that they have created
When they release 80% of their content, they will continue to develop new art and adapt to the market
Thinking of creating a skin/character system for the upcoming World Cup
Targeting the Chinese market during Lunar New Year
The Target Audience
Markets They Are In
Gunfire attracts players from Southeast Asia
Their top 5 markets are India, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, and Vietnam
The Philippines is a good market for Web3 games — the market is well-educated and there are many means of exchange between fiat currency and crypto
Trying to understand the Chinese market
How Do They Stand Out Among Other Gaming Projects?
In the US and Brazil, players like gun-shooting games
Decided to focus on the gun-shooting genre
How Is Blockchain Integrated Into The Game?
Blockchain is used to facilitate transactions and to reward players
Multi-Chain Plans
Trying to avoid markets that are really competitive
Prefers niche blockchains where they can get the support of the team behind the blockchain
Planning for NEAR Protocol, Immutable X, Solana
Their native token, when it is introduced, will be bridgeable. NFTs cannot be bridged
Do They Have Unique Things For Each Blockchain?
Their launching strategy is different on each blockchain
On Gunfire Avalanche, they started by selling their NFTs
On Polygon, every player uses the same starting weapon to ensure fairness
Wants players to have tight competition on Polygon by winning through their skills
The Revenue Model
3 sources of revenue:
Selling NFTs
When players play the game, they can mint a random box. Claiming the NFT from the box requires a small fee
Players buying tickets to enter the endless tournament
A portion of their revenue is used to reward the top players. The rest is used to fund their operations and marketing
The NFTs
What Types Of NFTs Do They Have?
The weapons, armour, and gears are NFTs
Heroes are NFTs (with the exception of the default hero)
They have their own marketplace
NFT Rarities
Have 5 different rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary
Have a fuse mechanism that allows players to combine different NFTs with the same rarity to get a higher rarity NFT
Referral System
When players introduce their friends to the game, they receive some benefits
To be a successful referral, the person has to play the game and interact with it at some stage
Have caught a number of cheaters who created multiple wallets and have banned them
Security
Both the Avalanche and Polygon iterations have been audited by Verichains
Where Is The Game Available On?
For Avalanche: On both Android and iOS
For Polygon: Only available on Android devices. Currently working on the iOS version
They are not in the official App store or Google store yet. They are operating in their test system
70% of players are using Android devices while the remaining are using iOS
How Do People Start Playing?
Visit Gunfireavax.io or Gunfirepolygon.io for Avalanche and Polygon, respectively
Click the download button to download the game
Players need to have a crypto wallet to register an account
Users will be brought to Oxalus to register a username and password to log in to Gunfire
The Native Token
Called GUNX
Currently working with their advisor to improve the tokenomics
The token will be used to upgrade weapons and your character
A portion of the token will be burnt whenever someone consumes the token in-game. This keeps the price of the token stable
Players playing the game or inviting their friends will be rewarded with the token when it launches
Community
Have a Discord community for both the Avalanche and Polygon player base
Have not gone down the DAO road yet
On Avalanche:
Call their new players meow gunners because they are like cats
The top players are called tiger gunners
On Polygon:
Players are called purple gunners because purple is the colour of Polygon
Have different roles in the Discord for how long someone has been with the project
Roadmap
Their token generation event will be in Q4 2022
Working on getting Gunfire on other blockchains
Developing a mode where players can play with/against their friends
“When the game is viral, the game can be sustainable.”
- Phillips
